Free chess class at La Farge library on Tuesday 24th June

The Final Four on June 7th

Our next tournament will be at the La Farge library in Santa Fe on June 7th.    In the final 4, players are placed in groups of 4 by rating and the 1st round is a semi final using Swiss pairings.  Winners move on to the final.  If the 1st round game is drawn then the player who had black moves on to the final.  Losing semi - finalists play each other for 3rd place.  2 rounds at 10:15  and 2.  G/90 + 5 secs delay.  Entry is $10  and the winner or each section wins $30. Directions:
The library is on Llano Street, between St Michael's Drive and Siringo.  From ABQ take I 25 and get off at the St Francis exit.  At the 3rd light go  L onto Siringo then R at the 2nd light onto Llano.

SF Rooks Action on May 3rd

For our next event we are playing 5 rounds G/30 ;d5.  The tournament is in the Southside library in Santa Fe.  Rounds at 10:15   11:30   1:45   3  and  4:15.  If there are 18 + players we will form 2 sections  upper and lower halves.  Entry is $10 and 80% of entries will be distributed as prizes. Either send your check for $10 to Santa Fe Rooks,  84 Moya Road,  Santa Fe NM  87508 or you could email me and then pay at the door....IF you get there early

From ABQ take I 25 then the 599 exit signed for Los Alamos etc  R at the 2nd light onto Airport Rd then R just after the golf course onto Country Club  the library soon appears on your L
From town  go way down Cerrillos then R on Jaguar Drive.  After about 2 miles the library is on your R  Make a couple of rights to enter

The Santa Fe Open on April 19th-20th

The Santa Fe Open will take place at the performance space at La Tienda in Eldorado.  For directions see the Kraai simul post below.  Play 5 rounds G/90 + 5 secs delay.  Rounds at  10   1:45  5:15 on Saturday and at 10 and 2 on Sunday.   2 sections -  Open and Reserve(U1500).  Prize fund - based on 16 per section:-

Rooks quad is set for March 1st

Our next tournament will be a quad on 1st March at the Southside library in Santa Fe.  Entrants are grouped in 4s by rating and then play against the other 3 in their section.  3 rounds at 10:15   1:15  and 3:30.  $10 to enter.  1st in each quad wins $30.  To enter send your check to Santa Fe Rooks or you could email me to say you are coming and then pay at the door IF you arrive at 10.

Blitz and Quick tourneys on December 14th

This coming Saturday we are playing at the La Farge library in Santa Fe.  4 double rounds of blitz (we will use the updated USCF rules) and 5 rounds of G/15 ;d3  These are 2 separate unrated tourneys then prizes go to the best combined scores.  Rounds at  10:15  10:45   11:15  and 11:45 for blitz then quick at 1:30   2:15   3    3:45   and 4:30

GM Kraai gives a Simul and book reading of "Lisa " a chess novel

On Saturday December 21st Santa Fe's  own G M,  Jesse Kraai, is coming to the Performance Space at La Tienda in Eldorado.  Jesse will read from his brand new chess novel "Lisa" and will sell you a copy.  For a few $ more you can take a board against  the International Grandmaster in the simul AND get a copy of Lisa...all for $15.  This may be your last chance for some time to get to play against a titled player!
The reading starts at 2 p m.  The simul should run from approx 2:45 till 5

Directions:
From Santa Fe take I-25 heading N.  After 8 miles take the exit to Clines Corners (285 S).  At the 2nd light go R into Eldorado..  The La Tienda mall is the first thing you see on the L.  The building with a green roof contains a restaurant , La Plancha, and the Performance Space.
