Carlos Santillan swept the tournament last Sunday with 5 points. In 2nd place, with 4, Bob Hampton took the U1600 prize, while Ian Scott's 3 points were enough to win the U1400 $.

Next tournament on Sunday 24th July
Our next tourney is a five round quick chess swiss at the Rodriguez Community Center. If there are 12 or more entries we will have 2 sections. Game in 29 with 3 seconds delay. Rounds at 10, 11:30, 1:30, 2:45 and 4.

From ABQ or Los Alamos get on State Road 599. 5 miles from the I- 25 turn on CR62, towards town. Follow the Frontage road then turn R on CR62 go past the Fire Station on the L and the Center is on the R

The next SFR event will be a 5 round swiss tournament, either 23rd or 24th July, I will announce which day within the week. Either way there will be 2 sections by rating and the time control is G/29

Our next tournament is The Return of the Rooks Quad at La Farge Library, LLano St. Santa Fe. Everybody plays 3 rounds. Rounds are at 10;15, 1:00 and 3:15. To enter send a check for $10 to Santa Fe Rooks, 84 Moya Road, Santa Fe NM 87508. 1st place in each quad wins $30.

Time Odds Tournament on August 20th
Santa Fe Rooks will be holding a handicap tournament at Nancy Rodriguez Community Center on 20th August. I thought you would all appreciate some advanced warning on how to set your clocks when you get there! You start with 30 minutes each on the clock....then calculate the difference in the players' ratings. Divide by 10 to get the number of minutes to adjust and then add half to the weaker player's time and subtract half from the stronger player.
For example......Joe Fish rated 1304 plays Magnus Bloggs rated 1697. The difference is 393 points.Divide by 10 leaves 39.3, so 39 minutes is the difference in clock times. Add 20 to Joe's clock so he starts with 50 minutes. Subtract 19 from Magnus which leaves him with 11 minutes.
5 sec delay is always used.
The stronger player will never start with less than 5 minutes
For calculation of time odds times, unrated players count as 1200
There will be 6 rounds, 1 section, prizes for 1st and for biggest upset(s) though only 1 prize per player. Hope to see you all there.

April will be a good month for chess in northern New Mexico:
The annual Class Championship will be held in Santa Fe April 16-17, at Desert Academy in Ssanta Fe. The winner of each class will be invited to represent New Mexico in the Rocky Mountain Team Challenge, tentatively scheduled in July in Taos.
April 30 is the 17th annual Pir Maleki Memorial, held at the United World College in Montezuma (near Las Vegas). BY far the most beautiful location for a chess tournament in New Mexico.
